DIY Peter Pan Embellished Collar

 

Hey Everyone!

 

As promised here is my tutorial for how to make a peter pan collar. I have always loved collars, they are one of the simpliest ways of updating any look, and they provide a perfect way in which to wear the same jumper a million different ways (haha giving that you have a million collars to pair it with of course!)

My favourite has to be the Peter Pan collar, because it gives any garment a 1960s inspired look, which for me has to be the best decade for fashion!

 

Embellishment is a key trend this season, and an embellished collar is an ideal way to sport the trend, without spending loads of money!

 

 After seeing this beautiful embellished collar from the new H&M autumn collection, I was inspired to have a go at trying to re-create my own. The collar costs £14.99, which due to its gorgeous attention to detail is a steal! However, due to its popularity it is sold out to buy online at the moment! So if you are desperate for a new collar, or if you don't have £15 to spend- like me- then have a go at making your own, using this tutorial :)

 

How to Make a Peter Pan embellished collar

 

 

What you will need:

•  stiff material- (interfacing or felt works well)
• Piece of fabric, eg, cotton (about 1/2 metre)
• Embellishment (optional) eg. Beads, sequins
• Scissors
• Needle, pins and thread
• Sewing Machine
• Pencil and paper

 

1)  Draw and cut out half a collar shape on a sheet of paper. To make this easier, trace around a collar from another garment.

2) Using the stencil, pin to your stiff material, on a fold.

3) Cut around the shape, so you end up with a collar shape which is joined at the top, but not at the bottom

4) Repeat this step, but this time with the other material. You should end up with two collar pieces which are of equal size.

 

5 &6 ) Now, get creative and sew on pearls, buttons, beads etc., to decorate the collar, giving it a more unique and vintage feel, or alternatively leave it plain.

 

7) Make sure that when hand sewing on embellishment you sew them on securely as otherwise they may fall off later!

8) Place both collars on top of eachother with right sides together.



 

9) Pin the two collars together and tack to secure.

 

10) Leaving a 4cm gap (so that you will be able to turn the collar the right way out), sew the collars together, using roughly a 3cm sem allowance on a sewing machine.

 

11) Once sewn, cut excess fabric, so that the collar turns out well!

 

12) Sew on a hook and eye to make the collar easyily detcatchable and turn the right way out.

 

13) Sew up the gap using small hand stitches

 

 

The finished collar :) looks great worn with large knits for autumn!

'What You Know '- Two Door Cinema Club

Yesterday we went to HMV in Oxford Street for an exclusive acoustic set and album signing session from the amazing band Two Door Cinema Club. Me and Jess have always loved music but was only until recently that we have started going to gigs, and have never looked back! Gigs aways guarentee an amazing atmosphere and experience and they manage to make you love your favourite bands even more (if thats even possible!)- as I found when we went to see the Maccabees in June!

We got up pretty early to get wristbands for the session but it was really nice being able to wonder round Oxford Street without the normal huge crowds of people wondering in and out of shops, we pratically had the shops to ourselves! (which as you can imagine was amazing!)

TDCC performed five songs a mix of old and new at the session, it was really nice to hear acoustic versions of hits such as Undercover Martyn and Something Good Can Work, we then got to meet them and have copies of their new album Beacon signed- they were lovely! :)

Their second album 'Beacon' is out now

To top off an amazing day, while leaving HMV we met and spoke to Pete Robertson (drummer) from another of our favourite bands The Vaccines who we are going to see at Ally Pally in November, he was really nice and happy to chat! :)

The Vaccines new Album 'Coming Of Age' is also out now! and definitely reccommended!

Jack Penate - Second, Minute, or Hour

Hey everyone, 

Today we went to the closing down party of a Candy Kittens store on Kings Road. For those who don't know the back-story of this shop, it's owned by Jamie Laing, from Made In Chelsea. As you can see in the above photos, we met Jamie, who was absolutely lovely and happy to make conversation and have a laugh with us.

Who likes our hats, i think we look WHAA (it means attractive...maybe not then :P)

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday we went on another trip out to Camden Town to look around the market and explore a bit more. Sadly for us there can be no more buying of Levi Shorts and slouchy tees because when term starts we are both off to college which is strictly smart wear (ekkk)! At first the thought filled me with dread, but after a bit more thought and a H&M haul (both me and Jess bought the gorgeous cable knit jumper- but in different colours of course!) I am actually looking forward to it, although its going to be tricky not being able to grab my jeans out the wardrobe! So over the next couple of months we might post a couple of a smartish outfits on the blog as well :)

Also, a couple of months ago, our sisters featured on our blog writing a music post, they have now started their own music blog, On the Jukebox. It's full of new bands, gig reviews and song reccomendations and is worth a look! :)

How to make homemade custard creams :)

 

I felt that it was time for a baking post, biscuit time! Everyone has their favourite biscuit to go with afternoon cuppa, and for me it has to be a good old custard cream. I can eat millions of the things, sereiusly once I start, I can't stop!

 

 I was very keen to try making some homemade- somewhat healthier versions of the buscuit tin classic, so I could eat them without so much guilt!

 

I found this recipe online, whilst browsing through Ed Kimber's (winner of Great British Bake off) website, which I would definitely reccomend!

 

There are only five ingredients in this recipe- so don't be afraid to try it!

 

Ingredients

For the Biscuits--- 225g flour--- 50g Custard Powder--- 30g Icing Sugar--- 175g Butter--- 1tsp Vanilla Extract

 

For the Filling---50g Butter---200g Icing Sugar---2tbsp Custard Powder

 

 



 

Step 1--- Put the flour, sugar and custard powder in a blender, and pulse.

 

Step 2--- Once all mixed, add the butter and vanilla extract and pulse until the mixture forms a dough

 

Step 3---  Form a ball with the doudh, and wrap the in clingflim and refrigerate for 40 mins

 

 

Step 4--- On a floured surface roll out the dough so that it is 3-4mm thick

 

Step 5--- Using a biscuit cutter cut out roughly 40 biscuits (so when sandwiched together this would make 20 biscuits).

 

Step 6--- Bake the biscuits in a preheated oven (180C/160C Fan/350F) for ten minutes until just firm.

 

 

The Icing

Step 1--- Cream the butter, sugar and custard powder togther in a bowl

Step 2--- Spoon the icing into a piping bag and squeeze onto the biscuits- or use a knife to spread onto the biscuits

 

 



Step 3--- Sandwich the biscuits together

 

 

Best served once cool and with a hot cup of tea- enjoy! :)
